Empowering Women Through Makeup

Thursday, March 9, 2023

In honor of International Women’s Month, we want to acknowledge all makeup and hair artists around the world for their efforts to empower women clients through the use of makeup! Furthermore, this year’s Women’s Month 2023 theme is inclusivity. So we gathered women from different fields to inspire you with their words.

Every woman has her own definition of empowerment. For Noëlla Coursaris Musunka, the founder of Malaika, women’s empowerment means being able to make choices about her career, family, and health, but also having the knowledge to make good, informed decisions. Similarly, Liliana Madrigal, the co-founder and executive vice president of the Amazon Conservation Team, defines women’s empowerment as acting and pursuing goals fueled by love, creativity, and passion.

If there’s one thing common between these two
inspirations, then that is women perceive empowerment as having control over their own lives.

That’s exactly how makeup empowers women! It’s giving them a sense of control and independence. According to the Australian Beauty School (2020), amidst the uncontrollable chaos surrounding us, makeup helps us be in charge of how we want to look. And if we feel that what we do is right and that we look beautiful, it helps us bring out the confidence within.

An interesting fact about makeup is: wearing makeup boosts confidence and self-esteem, but it also makes women feel smarter! Studies have shown that positive emotions are a result of wearing makeup, it also boosts cognitive abilities leading girls to improve in academic performance and productivity. Moreover, makeup also serves as a downtime for women. As natural multitaskers, it is quite difficult to make time to just sit down and meditate. Makeup becomes a tool of self-care—to meditate in silence just to breathe and let the brushes massage your face.

"If you are a mom, you are a superhero, period."

As a mother of three little ones under five at home with me all day every day, I rarely have time to care for myself. It’s “mommy, I need this”, “mommy, someone hit me”, or “mommy, I’m hungry”. . . I am always looking to fulfill each and every one of their needs and as many desires as I can as well without totally losing it! At the end of the day, it can feel totally defeating, and like you faded into the background. I can attest from my own personal experiences, that if I wake up and get dressed, and put makeup on, I feel better about myself, and I also feel like I can take on the world. Makeup definitely has the power to, and does enable me to be a better mom and wife!

As a brand led by and composed of women, we have nothing but love and respect for our clients. With their vision, they take control of how beautiful they should be at their wedding. And we aim to give clients an enriching experience as we help them become their most extraordinary selves on that day!

So to you, dear reader, know that your strength, resilience, and efforts are seen and appreciated. Happy International Women’s Month!
