Let's Get Real

A look behind the scenes at what you see and read on the internet

Sunday, February 14, 2016

YouTube. Pinterest. Instagram. Buzzfeed. Sometimes it seems like everywhere you go on the internet, there is yet another beauty tutorial or article claiming, “This is the correct way to do it:”You are doing it wrong.”

Am I doing it wrong? Should I be able to get a neat braided crown or a perfect smoky eye inunder 10 minutes? If I follow this DIY mask, will my skin be flawless? I have been a hair and makeup artist for the last 9 years, and I still can’t get it right on the first try every time—aren’t you supposed to? How are you supposed to know whether you’re “doing it wrong” or if it’s justnot right for your hair, skin, face shape, or eye shape?

I am a professional, but I want to give the average girl hope: Yes, you can do it! But maybe we all need a reality check about the amount of time that goes into creating these looks. I want to give you insight into the reality behind the scenes and enough background knowledge that you’ll be able to sort through things with confidence now that you know how long it should take, and whether it’s right for you or not.

You won’t look exactly like the girl on Pinterest or YouTube. But, you will find what makes you uniquely beautiful in the process, and that is true beauty.
